All this talk of beige G3's made me remember to post this:

I have a beige Desktop G3 266MHz. It is running MacOS X 10.2.8 (recently
upgraded to OS X due to kind donation of the install disks from a friend.)
It runs OS X fairly well (it has two 64MB DIMMS and a 256MB one, which
unfortunately it only cares to see 128MB of, giving 256MB overall.) The OS
is installed on a secondary drive (I removed the internal CD ROM and have
two internal IDE drives now, and an external SCSI CD Burner.) One drive
(10GB) has the original 8.6 on it, the other (8.4GB) has two partitions (one
circa 6GB and one 2GB one) and OS X is on the larger of those. I think the
OS X drive is the primary master on the first IDE stream. Classic is not
installed, by the way.

Basically, OS X runs just fine 99% of the time, but a few times I've been
running updates through the Software Update panel, or installing packages
via the Installer and the machine has frozen. It happens two fold. First the
mouse frezed, but the OS is still running. Secondly the monitor goes into
powersaving mode. The OS still seems to be running, but there is no way
seemingly to revive it.

Any ideas? Could it be to do with the SCSI CD burner? I did notice that
copying the files from the CD I was installing from to the 2GB partition
seemed to cure the problem.

Secongly, while I remember, does OS X support serial conection of a Apple
LaserWriter Select 360? I can share it from a PC via SAMBA, but it would be
nicer to have it connected directly. Print Center is so different from
Choser, I was lost.

Sorry if that is a little technical to begin with - I'm originally a PC guy,
and found Macs later in life. Don't hold it against me though, I now have 4
Macs vs 2 PC's (and one of those PC's is a laptop.)
