Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html
Dear colleagues: Some of you have passed along to me very nice utilities
for Maptitude, using GISDK. I am busy preparing to teach a course in another
hemisphere and have not had time to evaluate them. I want to be sure that no
one thinks I am ungrateful! So many lines of code - so little time ... !
I am offering a GIS & Public health course in Seattle June 11-15 using
Maptitude, and those routines are going to be very useful. When I return I
will tend to them directly. Those of you who know me know that my one true
talent is busting software - so likely you will be hearing from me.
Again, thanks
Richard Hoskins

Margie your a whiz at handling the web...way ahead of me.
I didn't realize that attachments might be a problem for people. Your
method is very easy and also avoids clogging peoples email archives and
making people on dialups wait for something to download that they may not
use.
I have just used http://www.freebikemaps.org/mapt/upload.html to upload
utilities.rsc 1.03. I'll use the same name every time, and people and look
at the first line to see the version.
For future releases I include:
"I've uploaded a new utility file to: http://www.freebikemaps.org/mapt/
Click on the URL (at left), then, after your browser opens the page you
should see utilities.rsc in the list. Right click on it and choose "Save
Target As" to download the file."
Thanx for your great work.

Ah. I'm using pine on a unix system for email. Lots of good reasons.
Mostly because I can manage very large quantities of email better this
way (and I'm not at risk of launching windows viruses) but email
attachments in this circumstance are a _heckuva_ lot of trouble. I have to
press all sorts of buttons, load ftp software, etc. It's a real project to
download attachments.
Much easier to copy and paste

Your email could be a simple (low-fat) "I've uploaded a new utility file
to: http://www.freebikemaps.org/mapt/utility.rsc "
I think it's fairly common for listservs to have a "no attachments"
policy. I'm not really asking for a total no-attachments policy (though
it's my preference). Just asking for web-accessible files of our growing
collection of Maptitude utilities.

I wouldn't be "inflicting" this alternative if it wasn't a heckuva
lot faster than the directionsmag site, which has always been sluggish.
Also, it provides for instant overwriting of the most recent version.
There are a lot of points of access to this file.
- The file is also catalogued on directionsmag.com.
- Also, anyone can get to it by following links from
http://maptitude.listbot.com
I just noticed, to my suprise that our mail-archive.com archives
do actually retain attachments, so that's an argument for attachments...
Even so, my preference is for web-accessible files, and I provided
http://www.freebikemaps.org/mapt/upload.html as a way of facilitating that
for others (like me) who don't want to fiddle with ftp software to access
files.
Can you try it, and let me know if it works for you? Sorry about the
slightly awkward URL. If anyone can provide something "prettier" that
works as fast, let me know.

Once I figure out Apache HEADER files little better, this'll just be
