M.G. buys the idea that globalized production is a technical necessity today.
The working people of any sizeable country can produce what they need. There are exceptions in which trade on the terms I outlined would occur. An example is minerals. Say the U.S. does not have cobalt and the Congo does. The Congo does not need to worry about a gap between the wage paid the workers who mined the ore and the U.S. wage for mining cobalt ore –, because there is none of the latter. Of course, the wage-gap tariff proposal is not going to happen in the capitalist U.S. If M.G. would stop distorting what he reads, he would see that my article linked it with a whole list of broad demands. It is agitation. As the article states, "If capitalism cannot achieve these things, then it is time for no-rich, no-poor socialism." But M.G. must run away from the actual content of the article that he mocks. He is one of the "progressives" about whom the articles states: The demand for a WGT ... exposes a remarkable thing about globalization: progressives have the weakest of answers for it. M.G. buys the idea that globalized production is necessary today. Capitalists certainly want it. But a socialist U.S. would not resort to automobile assembly and auto parts manufacture in Mexico. It would not resort to assembly of smartphones in China. Trade with other socialist countries would be mutually negotiated between the states. Trade with the least developed countries could, under political considerations, be combined with aid to foster their industrialization. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
