No -- as someone else pointed out, it only supports 7.5. Should still
work though, I think, since I've had 5.1 running happily on 9.x (and
as someone also pointed out, 5.1 seems to be very happy in Classic too).

I run 8.6 on my 'virtual' PPC. SheepShaver supports up to 9.0.4, but 9.0.4
was a black mark on the otherwise excellent OS 9 series. Once support
makes it to 9.1 and up, I'll jump to that.

By the way, the Basilisk II port for OS X is nice, too, and verrrry fast.
