SheepShaver, ShapeShifter (Mac OS on an m68060 is pretty nice)
I've not heard of ShapeShifter. Is it related to SheepShaver, beyond the alliterative qualities? If only the 68060 were pin-compatible with the 68040!!!
Shapeshifter was written (for the Amiga) by the same person who went on to create Basilisk II. SheepShaver originaly started as a mac on BEos program and has since become a x-platform ppc emulator running up to 9.0.4, the source is compiled linked to the Basilisk II source. We'll be running OSX on more than PearPC very shortly. :) Win2k and XP. I run 8.6 under pc-MDK at around the same speed as Basilisk II but each release improves. It can also be run on windows via Colinux under either Debian or Gentoo, expanded hardfile images are required. :)
SheepShaver is not linked to MOL as MOL only runs on ppc machines in the same way Win4Lin wont run on anything but i386.
I've happily ran VPC3 and 4 under MOL on a 7300 running MDK which would be the best way I can think of for Clae, Bochs works on the same machine at about 1/4 the speed. A P2 would be faster, a P3 even better but you may have to spend a dollar or two.
SoftWindows would be less resource hungry for this task.
Many Amiga accelerators had both a 060 and a ppc 60+ chip, but then they are the best 68k ever built so its no surprise. This requires some work on the OS so I can't see it ever working on a mac, does anyone work on the classic OS anymore?
Fusion (for the Amiga not the poor pc port) is still the most complete emulation of a mac on any platform I've yet found. Eats Shapeshifter.
