Geordie,
I think the difference between the two methods is two parts of three tenths
of nothing. I just returned to tank as has been easier.

As a general rule, doesn't hot fluid in a tank of any description float to
the top anyhow? Since a surge tank takes fuel from the bottom where it's
coldest and drains to the main tank at the top where it's the warmest, then
the physics of it works in your favour???
