The Zed and the 5 speed SSS boxes look almost the same. The 6cyl box has a
second rib cast circumferentially(whew!) around the outside of the bell
housing. Outside dimensions are the same and I think the internals are
pretty similar, but some of our gear box experts should be consulted here.
Zed ratios in the lower gears are usually a little closer than boxes from
the 4 cylinder cars or the 6 cylinder sedans.
Early 240Z boxes have a flange drive on the back of the extension housing,
just like the diff flange. These obviously dont just fit up to the stock
tailshaft, but they have a very desirable 2.9 first gear - worth making a
special tailshaft for these!
