OK Guys.... let's settle this argument once and for all....

The whole purpose of a "street meet" is that most of the cars that DRAG race at Eastern Creek are Street Form Cars!

I guarantee that even those with slicks on the back (which arn't many) that unless they are running sub 10 second passes 90% run Radial Street Styres on the front. If you are going in a street tyres are made to stop a car at 200km/h PLUS!!!... what about the Autbahns in Gernmany??? They are doing over 250km/h!  What makes that any different from a straight line track that is fully setup for one purpose and one purpose only.... to GO AS FAST AS YOU CAN in 400M and have plenty of room to slow down.

The reason why they dont like "STEEL BELTED" radials on the front on a track is that they are exactly what the name describes..... "STEEL BELTED"... and any cars doing very fast speeds shouldn't take the risk of the belt cracking or coming loose as it can do some very serious damage at high speed not to mention loss of control. I've had one come off on me once, and it slapped around the guard and cause plenty of panel damage and it was only 100km/h.... personally my mates all run Steel Radials on the front and they constantly run low 11's and 10's in their Rotaries with no problems... and they're doin over 120MPH!

Just a point to note,

Anthony

what type of tyres are eg. mickey thompson 'littlies' for the front.

i might be way off - but i just remember drag racing friends saying that the rears and fronts should match for what-ever reason.

i'm sure blokes slap on slicks for the rears and leave radials on the front............. whatever makes you happy.

is anyone on the list a serious drag racer - maybe can shed some light on us amateurs.

>As ambitious as Anthony is, I don't think he's going to be cracking 200mph down the quarter just yet. In fact, anybody who is planning on getting a terminal speed like that would legally be required to fit a parachute!

>Even cheap tyres are rated to speeds of over 210km/hr, so if you prepare well and choose appropriate quality radials then yea, they absolutely are designed for it!

>true, and when they have got the whole weight of a car doing 200mph trying to stop on them they are likely to let go cos there not designed for that

>Think about it sensibly. All slicks are designed to offer their peak performance at higher operating temperatures than street radials are, hence the traditional warmup burnout. If you ran slicks on the front, they will not be in their operating temperature range and therefore offer bugger all grip, but a street radial will be, and will perform well by comparison.
