Coil negative connection to ECU is needed otherwise wouldn't run at 
all (tells  the ECU when to fire the injectors).  A couple of 
possibilities off the top of the head:

Are you using the full 280ZX ign system, particularly the coil (no ballast) ??

Do you have the injector dropping resistors in place ??
