Yeah, the coil to ECU connection is present, just a plain wire. It starts
and idles great.

Yeah, I'm using the lot as it came from the ZX , coil and all. There's no
ballast on it.

Yeah, they are there and seem to be working fine. The entire engine harness
is as removed from the ZX. The only connections I have had to make are 1)
the two fusible linked power feeds, 2) coil to ECU connection, 3) power
supply to the EFI relay and 4) the fuel pump relay setup.

I've just tried a different ECU and it's still the same ...cuts the
injectors at 1800rpm.
