That last one (tailgate down) doesn't actually save fuel, or it doesn't save an easily noticable amount. I made some fairly extensive tests with just having the the tailgate down, having it removed completely and removing and replacing with a net. No detectable difference in any case. At the time I was commuting about 60 miles a day so I had lots of data. I found it annoying to not have a tailgate (lost a charcoal grill under the net once) so I put it back and haven't removed it in years.
