First, and most obviously, the engine is sensitive to low revs. Which means that revs always have to kept high, especially in gears 3-5.

All your problems sound like they might be relieved somewhat
with a shorter rear end in it.  Our 190D (manny conversion)
exhibits a mild form of this behavior.  I believe that I also
need to swap rear ends with the donor as well.  Whereas the
200D (115) is very grunty and has plenty of torque.  Surprisingly
pleasant driving behavior.
