I've read some of the comments over time, about biodiesel. Well, I tried out a 2% biodiesel-98% normal #2 at a Shell station on Rte 123 & I-75 (one of the Franklin exits, just south of Dayton, Ohio) and it was expensive... $3.20/gal. I filled it up and have been running fine with it since last Thursday. On Sat, I began to use 5w30 Mobil 1 instead of 15w50, getting ready for winter (I want to see if it will fire up in the parking lot at the end of a day without smoking too badly.) The car seems to have more power and I've used a lot less fuel for roughly the same number of miles as the last tankful.
How does biodiesel fare during the winter months? Won't it gel a lot faster? If so, there will be a huge boost in anti-gel additive sales. A friend is buying a 1993 300D (2.5L turbo) and wants to use 100% biodiesel in it. Will he have to convert his car over to it? I know of someone else who uses 100% biodiesel in his Benz diesels without conversion and they run fine with no problems. So, who is correct? Are these guys flirting with danger of some sort by using biodiesel without a conversion kit for their cars? Thx.
