Ever drive one with bad spheres? My friend owned one which I later bought that had bad spheres, it was like driving a pogo stick. He had it one whole winter like that, I could never understand why anybody would want one. When he got the spheres replaced it all of a sudden made sense...

But yes, even with very little in the back, that is EXACTLY what the car will do if it was converted to springs. No amount of stiffening will get rid of that.
