There were 3 190Ds brought officially to the US.

There was the 201.122 190D 2.2 brought to the US in '84-'85. 72 HP, 0-62 mph ~19 sec (that's 5+ sec faster than a 240D) highway mpg ~36-37 (more economical than a 240D too). VERY nice car - even nicer with a 5 speed that makes EVERYTHING about it nicer.

There was the 201.126 190D 2.5 brought to the US from '86-'89. 90 hp, 0-62 mph ~ 15 sec (faster than an '81-'85 300SD). Highway economy ~33-34 mpg. A 5 speed was available that also made everything else better, but VERY few of them were imported (my guess is no more than a few hundred).

Finally there was the 201.128 190D 2.5 turbo 123 hp (119 in Calif). Only imported to the US in '87 and fewer than 1400 were brought over. 0-62 ~11 sec. Only available as an automatic. Really a nice car - matched PERFECTLY with the automatic transmission. I love 5 speeds (owned 3 of 'em), but the 190D 2.5t really is PERFECT with an automatic.

There was a European 201.122 190D 2.0 (never officially brought to the US) that was manufactured from '83 thru the early '90s. ~70 SAE hp and a little less torque than the 2.2 version sold in the US. Nice VERY economical car. I've done well over 40 mph on the highway with the 5 speed I own (got 48 mpg once, but 42-43 much more usual and can drop below 40 with the AC cranking full blast or in the winter with winter fuel). Acceleration is a little slow - 18-19 sec to 62 mph - still MUCH faster and more economical than a 240D and much less work to maintain (no valves to adjust).

Timing chain life of OM60x engines is routinely almost double what it is on OM61x engines using regular oil and about double that again using Mobil 1. With just a little care, the timing chain should last the life of the engine TWICE!
