The support extending to the rear on my '83 300D broke and I fixed
it with an accurately drilled piece of one eighth by one inch steel bar
matching two bolts in the manifold and the rubber mount bolt in the
air cleaner.
If the support extending to the side breaks, I'll fix it with the
same size bar stock. Would have done so just in case, but the
support looks to be in good condition.

At the same time I made new compressible "bushings" for the U shaped
air duct from the air cleaner to the blower. The air duct had become
old and stiff and the rubber or plastic bushings in its ends had deteriorated
such that the stainless steel clamps would not squeeze it down to the
air cleaner or blower openings.
I took the measurements of the openings down to a motorcycle/ORV
shop and bought two inner tubes of a size that would stretch-fit over
the openings. I cut approximately one inch "rubber bands" out of the
inner tubes and stretched them over the openings.
The thin "lips" on the duct were trimmed half way around so it could
be installed with a tight fit. I used a narrow razor knife for that, cutting
a small piece at a time. The duct tightened up better than it ever has, and
it's worked well so far, but the duct is not very flexible anymore, and the
bands may not provide enough elasticity to keep it in place.
(I only found one replacement duct ($75 ) on Ebay or Google, and it was
probably in equally bad shape. I didn't even check new prices which were
probably over $100.)

The bracket is not up to the task, at least the ones I have replaced on the SD. The most recent one I got from our esteemed lister/supplier was cheap chinee crap but can probably be fixed with some stout metal. I think the problem is sort of a design issue along with a marginal part (per the design) The air cleaner is pretty heavy and sits cantilevered out quite a ways on the bracket, and the engine, and hence AC shakes quite a bit, and that bending moment/flexing with that weight hanging out there just destroys a poorly-designed/manufactured part and general arrangement.

300SD Air Cleaner "Fix". Does this require bracing welded to the factory
bracket, or a rubber donut mounted to the side of the air cleaner in gap between
air cleaner and valve cover?

My 300SD tends to do it own thing also, but is amazingly quieter with a
piece of high density foam zip tied to the hose on the top of the air
breather. I have to get that air filter brace repaired about once a year.
Dragon does a good job of verbal commands, and 'go to sleep' will stop it
cold - unless I am in the dead zone awaiting it to start processing again. I've made a few changes to the system and program, but it will be tomorrow
before I am ready to give it a try.

So, it sounds like Dragon is trying to "listen" while you are away? It
sounds like performance isn't a bottleneck until Dragon eats all your RAM, so maybe it's just recording dead air. If that's so, you will never be able
to beat it.

I've not used Dragon, is there a way to pass it commands like "pause"? Or a
setting for max record time before going idle?

Best,
Tim
