Well, the rail has some play at the top, so I'm convinced that the right
thing to do is replace it.  Failure of this rail would probably destroy the
engine.

Does anyone have the locking tool for the starter ring gear?  I need that to
secure the crankshaft so I can remove the crank balancer.  Tightening torque
on that beast is 200Nm plus a 90 degree turn.  I suppose it is not too
expensive to buy, looks like a little piece of metal that bolts into the
starter hole once the starter is pulled.  Maybe I can fashion something...
