I used left-over Diesel Purge, since I'd just finished doing a purge.
(On my VW I once used ATF.)  After maybe a dozen strokes of the primer
pump I had no more air coming out.  Tightened the banjo bolt and the car
started right up.

I poured the diesel from the old filter into a jar and looked at it.  It
had so much crap floating in it I didn't even want to put it back in the
tank, much less pour it into the new filter.
