You could wire a light to the monovalve and watch for it's activity. Power out I think means monovalve open which means heat on.
If the light is always on meaning monovalve closed that would point to a defective (although good looking) monovalve. She was driving along the road when the vents started blowing hot air. The compressor is clicking on and off while this is happening so I am thinking an electrical glitch.
