It helps to make .380's and .38's viable CCW defensive weapons.

Some friends had a sweet .380, the large Colt I think, and
it was very pleasant to shoot.  I wanted one.  Another friend
was looking for home defense and was drawn to the small cuteness
of a .380, so we went to the range and rented every one they had.

They all were _horrible_ in terms of pain to shoot, they were
all optimized for CC, unlike that bigger Colt.  She ended up
going bigger, once she realized that all that static mass she
didn't like had a pretty good functional purpose.  It made
practicing fun, and your second shot nearly as good as your first.

For home defense my grandpa used to say that even better than
the first shot was the "chack-chack" from the bedroom as you
pumped in the first shell.  Few miscreants will stick around
after hearing that, and you don't have to clean up any blood.
