Yes the head is the one major difference. You may have to change
the tailhousing and speedo gear drive on the transmission. The 84
SD that I took the transmission out of had an electronic speedo
so in order to use it in my TD I had to change the tailhousing
and the speedo drive gear from the original TD transmission to
the SD transmission. It all still works great. I probably should
have changed out the torque converter also but other then a
slightly higher stall speed it has worked fine.
The interior parts have a lot of differences. You will not be
able to use the vacuum door lock parts unless you also use the
electric switches and the electric vacuum/pressure pump from the
SD. The window winders are also different and can be used with
some modification to the lift arm ends. If I remember correctly.
switches and ACC controls are the same as well as the vacuum pods
for the climate control but I do believe the evaporator and air
box stuff may be different.

That is the only "major" difference? My google search on the subject was
sorely lacking in good results.
From my reading the transmission and drive train are all the same, along
with the vacuum parts and the ACC, most interior door parts etc. Is that
right?
