When I got the shroud out of the way and turned the engine over, it lined up and slipped right in.  It seems the ears on the tc slipped out a bit making the trip from bench to in the car.   It is all in and good except for trans cooler lines, dipstick, fluid, and the fan/shroud. Hope to finish up tomorrow if the rain holds off.   Gonna get some hose and replace the PS return and the trans cooler hoses.   I thought they were fairly new, but they must be 20 yrs old.  at any rate, they are hard.   By noon  it had dried up enough I could go at it again.   I'll admit to not much enthusiasm today, but after I got the bolts in the bellhousing, things started moving along.

Thanks for the hard won trick of the trade, Manfred!    I was afraid the thing was gonna fall out a couple times, but I managed to keep in on top of the floor jack.  It tipped over yesterday to the right, but the tunnel held it until I could get it on more or less an even keel again.
