The Ford 3.5 Ecoboost V6 has good reviews for the most part. If oil changes have not been done on schedule watch for timing chain wear (this will set a code at some point).

But I don't know that this is a particularly common trouble spot. Hondas have a reputation for value that they don't IMHO deserve. So I think a CRV or Pilot will be more expensive for the same utility as an Escape. Again IMHO.
