The run flat problem is a lead acid battery problem, not a lithium battery issue. The BMS is supposed to prevent the battery getting discharged to damaging levels. For off grid solar lithium is a game changer, they're physically smaller, don't off gas, and can be deep discharged without damage. For me the issue is that they won't charge well when cold so I'd need to find a place for them inside the heated envelope of the camp. I think I've got it figured out and our next batteries will probably be lithium. Curt

As I understand it, they don't "expire" they start losing capacity (which reduces range) and eventually they will no longer provide a useful range to the owner of the vehicle. It also depends how they are used. If they are run to near-flat and then fully recharged, that's harder on the battery life than running them down to say 40% and charging back up to say 80% charge (assuming that meets your range requirements).
