I prefer a DIY PC in order to custom choose the components. But this is not the cheapest option. (Microcenter has some nice mobo package deals). I regularly check slickdeals.net, the Anandtech Hot-Deals forum, and salescircular.com. Almost always there are powerful PC's available in the $300 price range (sans monitor). In summer of 2011 I selected for an acquaintance an HP PC: dual-core AMD (3+ GHz), 4 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD for slightly over $300. If you can wait until BlackFriday, there will likely be some special deals then. _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) Vassar College Nov 7 - Typography: Physical Art to Digital Art Dec 5 - Sysadmin Panel
