Here's an additional FYI. If you buy a  closeout, refurb, or used PC it will 
not apply to you. But it might be of interest to someone else in the group.

For a new PC to be Microsoft certified as Windows 8 capable, it must have a 
UEFI BIOS which includes the "Secure Boot" feature.Secure Boot prevents 
anything other than MS Windows from booting. It is intended to prevent malware 
(or so Microsoft says). It does this by checking for a Microsoft supplied 
signing key.

The Linux distros are developing workarounds that will enable them to boot in 
the presence of Secure Boot. (The Fedora workaround is different from the 
Ubuntu workaround). So, at most, Secure Boot should amount to an inconvenience 
to the Linux user.
