It sounds like you didn't do that successfully, or it wouldn't be
presenting a login dialog. What you have is just a "shell" connection.

SLIP has absolutely no link-level protocol of its own at all. It *always*
says it went online because it has no way to know any better. You could
get an online SLIP connection without being connected to anything at all.
This is one of the reasons I prefer PPP.

Because there is no link-level protocol in SLIP, it has no way to
determine the IP via the link. The IP addresses of *both* ends have to be
configured *statically* at *both* ends, and there's no check that you've
done this consistently.

Umm, what you descibe above doesn't sound like it's working. If it did
work, you'd be able to establish a *PPP* link from Miami.

Officially Miami doesn't support dialin at all. In practice it can be
faked - see the nullser (Aminet comm/misc) docs for an example.

Get pings to work before you worry about FTP.
