The question of how to buy a registered copy is simple from what I have
read here, but I will caveat what I type below by saying I might be wrong
about 2 and 3:
1) Download Miami and register via MiamiRegister (assuming this works and
Holgar's system is still set up on the other end - which appears to be
questionable).
2) Buy from a dealer that has been authorized by Holgar to sell registered
copies of Miami (this seems to be more prevalent in other countries).
3) Buy a copy from someone else, either directly or via an auction site.
Clearly, 1) is legal since it is directly from Holgar; likewise, 2) is
legal if Holgar authorized the dealership.
The question of whether 3) is legal has yet to be resolved. If a user
simply wants to sell a copy of his copy of Miami, keeping a copy for him
to use, that is clearly not legal. If a user tries to sell his copy of
Miami, with the intent of destroying any copies of the software after
transferring title to someone else, that may or may not be legal. It
depends IF the user agreed to a software license, IF the license prohibits
transfers or sales (as the text below implies), and IF the software
license is enforceable.
Obviously, if Holgar cannot or does not enforce any prohibitions against
transfers, the whole issue is moot.
Additional caveat: I am not a lawyer. These are just my observations.
