You have already received so much advice that your head must be swimming. As
others have said try out a few different cars and see which one suits you
circumstances and needs the best.
So much depends upon your budget. No Morgan is going to be cheap, but most do
not lose value so the cost of ownership is relatively low compared to TVRs etc
(sorry I don't know much about Caterhams)

If you want a long distance tourer then a +8 or Roadster will fill the bill
nicely and due to their heavier weight they tend to ride more smoothly and
comfortably. They also have lots of torque which gives a very relaxing drive
(esp the +8) as you are not changing gear (unless annoyed by a angry Porsche or
BMW driver) continually.

If you want roller skate type handling then the closest thing in Morgan terms
to a Caterham is going to be a powerful 4/4 , which is the lightest car in the
range , and arguably the best balanced. The choice of engine is going to be
dictated by your budget.

The +4 , especially the modern Duratec engined car is a nice compromise between
the larger engined cars and the 4/4, and in many ways does give something from
each camp.

As a first time Morgan chooser I would avoid those models which have a price
premium due to rarity or perceived value (Moss Box +8s, TR +4s , etc) and stick
to the more plentiful cars.

The CVH engined 4/4 is perhaps a mite underpowered (esp when coming from a
Caterham 500) but with a VVTi engine it too can be made to fly, (just ask Tim
Harris and look at the smile on his face)

Do go to a local area meeting , talk to owners (most can talk for GB about
their cars) and gather as much information as you can. Let us know what you
decide upon and stay in touch via this discussion group. There is lots of help
and information here at the click of a mouse.

(I own a 1999 +8 which suits my needs totally)
