Hi Lawrence

I too have the same model and year car and mine is the GEMS engine.

I had a similar problem, from quite low revs mine would accelerate quite
unpredictably, it made approaching roundabout interesting particularly when
you expected the car to decelerate under engine braking and then it would
speed up!
The wise folk of this forum told me a solution that fixed my problem.
Apparently the GEMS units are VERY sensitive to battery voltage. It doesn't
like it if the battery is not up to snuff. I solved my problem by making
sure its on a battery conditioner all the time its in the garage. Not had a
problem with it since then. Touch ash.

A simple solution and I hope it helps

BR

Stuart

Subject: [mogtalk2] revving at idle V8?

Hi folks,

Just back from a super Jockmog weekend down in the Scottish Borders around
Peebles. Dry at all the times that mattered and sunny all the way back
today. Good hotel and a great group of Jockmoggers.

Anyway, one of our members has a 2001 +8 that has recently started to stick
at around 2000rpm when they take their foot off the throttle. It just
sticks there as the idle speed, drive it above 2000rpm and it operates
normally until you want the revs to drop and then they don't. As the
member lives a long way from any dealer they usually have their Mog
serviced by a well respected local independent but seemingly he is stumped.
The problem doesn't show up every day but once it does it stays until the
car has been rested over a day or two and will then come back, maybe,
without notice during a run. Obviously this is dangerous and needs to be
fixed.

Before they start taking days off work to visit main dealers is there a
known issue that can cause this?

Cheers,
Lawrence
