It's simple, I think.

1) MooTools doesn't market itself. jQuery does an excellent job of
marketing. Not sure where the devs found the time ...

2) MooTools audience is "intermediate to advanced javascript developers"
whereas jQuery is "designed to change the way that you write javascript."
The jQuery approach attracts designers and back-end developers who don't
want to learn javascript. But that's not to say they don't have a smart
group of users as well, I was totally impressed by many people I met when I
spoke at jQuery Conference.

3) Search volume != usage trends

We all know that graph doesn't represent usage. How many times do you
search "mootools" in google? I imagine the majority of searches like
"mootools" and "jquery" are performed non-programmer admins and marketing
folks who are looking up buzzwords they hear in meetings.

I think Hartum is talking about the website not the code of the framework.

And, I disagree, their website is ugly as f*ck.

And how does jquery look prettier? Jquery is a framework but also has a lot
of ui stuff prebuilt with it that's all

I agree with almost everything has been said here, but there is a
point that nobody has mentioned,
and is a matter of marketing.

Jquery page looks prettier.

With rounded corners, web 2.0 look, colours, etc..

Mootools page is made by programmers, for programmers.

A simple trick, please help to designers for your webpage, and will be
not only good but also it will seem.

Once Again, sorry if my english is strange. :-S
