Once again, we see that anything that can be used can be abused, as an old prof of mine said. As in Role Sheets in Lit Circles. Or Cooperative Learning Roles. Or Webbing. Or Comprehension Reading Strategies. Sometimes we in education use our close-up lens way too often when what we need is a panorama shot. And sometimes we stop too short--and never reach the goal toward which we were actually heading. Or just plain lose sight of it in our daily-ness. And if we don't know where we're going or how we're going to get there, how in the world do we help a student know?? Like...noone needs to be a Fluent. They need to be a Fluent READER. > Maybe the words are doing the work for them and they just have nothing > else to add. Um..... in my mind, we don't assess strategies > themselves. We assess comprehension and the use of strategies are part > of that. If a student is comprehending well, I don't worry whether or > not they are using every strategy. One student may use more > visualization, another student may use no visualization, focusing more > on the verbal aspect. _______________________________________________ Mosaic mailing list Mosaic@literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
