#3980: Can we integrate support for /etc/mailname?

Hi,
we have a long running patch in Debian to support Fqdn from /etc/mailname
if available (more than 10 years at this point).
Given that the file is present on both Debian and Ubuntu, would it make
sense to add the support natively so that I can drop the patch?
