The upper capshrouds terminate as close to the masthead as possible.
Because these shrouds are only 1/8" or so, most installations just
rivet a tang on either side of the mast at the top. There is nothing
else up that high (above the forestay and regular capshrouds) except
the halyard and topping lift exiting the back of the mast. The upper
capshroud meets the lower capshroud at the shackle 3' or so from the
ama where the adjuster tackle attaches. It is common when dropping the
mast to remove the adjuster tackle but usually the capshrouds are left
strapped to the mast. I would suspect if the lowers are on the mast,
the uppers, if there, will be on the mast too.
