triple reef you can always do like I did on my old monoslug. I had a baby
stay that was short enough to allow a block and tackle to be connected
between it and the deck attachment point. I had a way to tie it to the mast
when not in use. When I would start pounding to weather in big seas or had
to really reef down I would hook up the baby stay. Worked great. I
converted my F-27 mast to a double spreader a year ago. It is much more
solid.

The top of the main is well below the attatchment of the jib stay and will
deflect the mast aft. The first indication was the lower (inner) shrouds
were dead slack (as in flop, flop) and the intermediate ones were loose.
