Greetings all,
Well, if it's a kind of quick "bzzzzzt" noise, I've heard that one
before. Here is something to try after you check the p/s and connections.
Press down on the front of the console (just below the faders); start at
one end and work your way to the other. If you can make the bzzzzt occur,
you may be close to the area where there is a bad connection. It you can
narrow it down length wise, then attempt to press on that area, but working
your way up towards the meter bridge. The other method is to lay on the
ground under the console and use some type of insulated device to push UP
in different places. I've used this technique to find bad connections
before with some degree of success. Best of luck!
Regards, Jim

Let's be clear about terminology here. I am often trying to determine
whether or not someone heard a "buzz" or a "hum". I define buzz as more of
an HF noise, of no particular frequency. Hum is, in my book, AC line
frequency (50/60hz depending what part of the world you are plugged in)
and its harmonics: 100/120hz, 150/180hz, 200/240hz, 250/300hz etc.
The two sounds tell a very different story as do the different frequencies
of hum.
best,
ike
I use the same parameters to distinguish between the two, but I should
have clarified with the OP because, as you said, "buzz" and "hum" usually
point to different causes.
