[newbie] kernel upgrade

I installed the latest kernel RPM, 2.2.9-27 and there's no problem
installing, recompiling, etc. The problem I'm having is with the modules.
I do a "make modles" and "make modules_install" and the modules get
installed to the old module directory instead of the new one.
Any ideas? Or does it matter?
