My gosh, what a helpful bunch you all are!
This is a general reply to everyone who has answered this - just so there's
some background to go with ..

I have my CD at the top of the boot list.
All cables and connections are good.
I am able to boot from a floppy.
I cannot boot from ANY bootable CD.
I can access the CD's once I've booted from the floppy.
I did create a bootable flopy with Linux, using the cdrom.img.  Was able to
boot up and start the installation, but computer rebooted mid-process (see
my first post for the results - they weren't good!

of course we could teach you how to do it from booting with a boot disk you
can create from the CDroms,,, if we want, and if you can boot up from a
cdrom
