Almost all fonts are copyrighted, and so cannot be distributed without a license, and Mandrake *will not* put anything in the download edition which is not available under a GPL or similar license. Recently however the 'Vera' fonts have been released under a free license, and are quite acceptable. 9.1 was thefirst release to include the vera fonts.
The second issue is that until recently X was very bad at displaying anti aliased fonts. They would appear very jagged. Recently X has improved considerably and font display is now good. However due to Apple's patent on 'bytecode interpreting' it is not legal to distribute X in the USA with it enabled. So to improve your fonts, then install the freetype2 RPM from Texstars download area, and your fonts will look a little better. (If Texstar has been added as a urpmi source, then just use Mandrake Sofware Manager to install the RPM.) > > Okay . . . Are these MP3's or audio CDs? Playing audio CDs is not the same as getting system sound. There are different issues affecting audio CDs. http://www.jennings.homelinux.net/audio_cd.html derek -- ---------------------------------- www.jennings.homelinux.net http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org
