You might check out another: xfce.  It's on the Mandrake
disks somewhere.  It's always being upgraded.  You can
download new updates at http://www.xfce.org.  xfce supports
up to ten desktops, has a file manager with drag and drop,
and uses less memory than either KDE or GNOME.  There is
something to be said for lean & mean window managers,
especially when you have a not-so-fast machine as I do.
