HI - I don't know what a "linmodem" is, but considering the low cost of an external modem, buy one and use it instead ! Best book about linux I've ever seen is : "Running Linux" from O'Reilly. It is very beginner-friendly and with a touch of humour too. Enjoy ! Regards Kaj Haulrich
