Another one I have used for about 7 years is F-Prot Available as DOS manual version free, and Windows version for $25 /year with Same features as Nortons (automatic updater etc).
For a long time I ran both the Norton (2000) NAV and FPWin real time scanners - both slowed the PC a bit!. I noticed that when downloading email using Eudora that Fprot always seemed to find any virus first. Both F-Fprot DOS and FP-Windows versions use the same virus definitions files, and you can download them manually yourself if you want.
