As a suggestion for a classless D20 - go through all of the classes and
prestige classes and strip out the "Class Features" and then rewrite them
all as Feats with appropriate (and balanced) pre-requisites.

Your characters will then be generated with "X" feats + "Y" skill points.
Make the prerequisites for all these Feats largely dependent either on
pre-requisite feats, OR achieving a certain number of ranks in a particular
skill.

Instead of assigning XP, the GM then assigns skill points for each
adventure, with a new feat being granted after every 10 (or 5, or 7, or
however many) skill points are awarded. The players can use skill points
and assign feats as they wish.

Combat with a specific type of weapon can be a "skill" with each plus put
into it adding to TO HIT . . .

Spells would have to be worked out . . .

I have been working on "converting" the "Class Features" to "Feats" for a
week or so now and am about 1/3 done. If anyone wants I will share this
with them...
