Egads.. using this logic, then everyone from Necromancer Games, Team Frog,
etc should just close up shop as they are, in theory, riding on the
coat-tails of the Granddaddy of OGF, d20. The entire concept of the OGF is
to encourage people to ride the coat-tails of the OGF.. At least in my
interpretation of the concept of creating an Open Gaming License. Unless I
am completely off, the idea is that Company A will create a product that is
essentially the Core rules, and companies B-Z supply content for the game.
Company A is spared the expense of creating content, while selling the rules
which are required to use the products of Companies B-Z. Those companies
ride the coat-tails of Company A, creating content for the game, thus
sparing themselves of the need to create a game, publish it and then
distribute it. If not for the entire premise of riding on the coat-tails of
Company A (Which is the core of the OGF) do you really think so many
companies would start from scratch to promote a product that may never make
it into further distribution than the neighborhood game center?
