In such a case, compatibility with a _distro_ called "OpenSolaris" does not seem to be something that gives extra benefit for distro creators. It seems that we may need to define mesaurable compatibility features that are important for a "sufficiently compatible" OpenSolaris distro and it may be that this needs to be done besides ARC. I believe that it is important to have a generally accepted set of common features in order to prevent balcanization of OpenSolaris. Balcanization of OpenSolaris would make it impossible to migrate between differen OpenSolaris based distros without getting into similar problems as from migratin from Linux to Solaris and vice versa.
