The problem of play appears to be related to devices. In the case of 
Blastwave's XMMS using the liboss for output it is expecting /dev/dsp. However, 
running

$ ossinfo -a

When selecting libsolaris XMMS produces the following warning:-

$ xmms

** WARNING **: solaris output: Unknown sound card type: SUNW,oss

** WARNING **: solaris output: Assuming capable of the bitstream

Running a truss on gnome-cd provides the following information that it uses
/dev/audioctl and /dev/audio 

/dev/audio links to /devices/pseudo/[EMAIL PROTECTED]:sound,audio
/dev/audioctl links to /devices/pseudo/[EMAIL PROTECTED]:sound,audioctl

The sadasupport device is created by the OSS driver, the truss is indicating no 
errors of failing to write to the /dev/audio or /dev/audioctl devices. So the 
error may be in the driver.
