Did you check with "top" if there is a process that keeps growing and consumes all the memory? I suspect that it is the "pkg" utility that consumes all the memory. This could be similar to defect 9388: "pkg image-update needs to cap memory usage " http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=9388 > That is up to a certain point because as image-update runs with a quite > high priority, console output tends to be very slow and erratic (which > in my opinion is very wrong, you should NOT get unresponsive shell when > running an update). A "pkg" process that is using huge amounts of memory could explain this...
