How about this as a slightly different approach:

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:POD

Basically allows you to edit POD files in a wiki. So we can retain the
original POD format without having to worry about converting from one
to the other. It looks a little old and unmaintained. But if its there
or there abouts we might want to "adopt" it!
