Ron,
You have not given us a chance to thank you... not only for this "fight" but
for constantly challenging us to think in terms of occupation, regardless of
whether or not we agree with you. Your posts help us to be more reflective
and deliberate. Hopefully this reflection and dialogue will inform our
clinical practices, educational and marketing efforts. We need to be
proactive in defining for ourselves and others what exactly is Occupational
Therapy. You at least give us(as does our history) a starting point for this
discussion and exploration. For this ,I consider your posts to be a
wonderful and much appreciated service to me and to the entire profession.

How do you feel about the Practice Framework; seems the Domain enables and
empowers us to work towards occupation-based treatment through the use of
other type of activity until the client is able to participate in true
occupation. Curious about thoughts on that.

A comment on the new video created by the Fund... I feel as though it
focuses more on catching the emotional attention of the viewer with cute
children and endearing adults than it does on educating the viewer about
what makes an OT perspective/approach/skill set unique and of tremendous
value related to outcomes. The only reason I bring that up here is that I
agree with you that we have an internal identity crisis and this does not
help anybody to understand or articulate OTs uniqueness. I manage a dept of
35 OTs and it is a crisis and my major "development" focus for 2004 within
my department. Thank you for the ongoing challenge. It can only help us.

Hello David:

Thanks for the 'thanks'. Why is it that a PT is the ONLY person to have
responded to the message??????? People in my profession can be such
weinies.... Don't they even care about stuff like this..... I get so
frustrated with being an OT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's happening with you????????????
