Sorry, but that has sfa to do with metering. It might account for higher
installation costs or monthly costs associated with the rental of the link
to the CPE but not most of the data pricing.

In my not-very-well-informed opinion, most of the data pricing is caused by
cartel-like behaviour from a few providers. Some recent disruptive elements
in the market have smashed the wholesale cost (to 30% of what it was a
couple of years ago) but the cost ain a DC (which is where ISPs buy their
data to on a mbps/month basis, not mbps/kilometre basis to your house) is
still 10x the cost of actual delivery.

Our buy price for the unmetered 100mbps of IP transit for TechEd this year
is 2/3 the cost of last year and will get cheaper per mbps again if we end
up buying more capacity on that link.

Yes, you can: http://www.tpg.com.au/products_services/adsl2plus_pricing.php

My gut is telling me to type that we will never see super-cheap unlimited
stuff here in Oz, but I would not have believed that TPG unlimited ADSL2+
plan would have ever existed if you asked me a few months ago.

I wouldn't get too hung up on international transit. All providers pay
someone for IP transit at some point - the question is just how much. TPG
were smart enough to buy Pipe, get their own International cable, light up
some extra wavelengths on it and have every other sucker underwriting their
international transit capacity to Guam. I'd hate to be competing against
them when NBN rolls out.
